Fannish things and friending memes

First, for anyone seeking more active LJ folks to know, there's another friending meme making the rounds:
* * *
There are former LJers who would like to return, but their friends lists have been deserted.
Let's all welcome them back with open arms and show them that LJ is very much alive!
* * *
Second, here's a fannish meme via
ladymercury_10. Comment with a letter or a couple of letters and I'll answer:
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
B - A pairing—platonic, romantic or sexual—that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?
H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr.
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.
M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom.
Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.
R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon.
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
V - Which character do you relate to most?
W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)

Date: 2016-02-01 07:44 am (UTC)I'm not sure if this is asking me to purposefully pick a song that reminds me of a ship or character or to put my music on shuffle and free-associate with whatever comes up, so I'll do both.
My pick: the last song I added to one of my fannish playlists was Second Chances by Gregory Alan Isakov. It reminds me really intensely of Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes post-Winter Soldier. It's beautiful, with sound simultaneously sad and hopeful. It makes me think of Bucky recovering from being the Winter Soldier and trying to rebuild himself with Steve's help. Sample lyrics:
I’m running from nothing, no thoughts in my mind
oh my heart was all black
but I saw something shine
thought that part was yours, but it might just be mine
I could share it with you, if you gave me the time
I’m all bloody knuckles, longing for home
if it weren’t for second chances, we’d all be alone
Shuffle: The first track shuffle gave me was from the Sherlock soundtrack, which is a little too obvious. The next was Coffee by Numbers (Faon's Song) by Marian Call. It really doesn't remind me of a specific character, but it sounds like a perfect theme song for a coffee shop AU: Hey Love, you look like a zombie on parade
You got a cell phone sword and a briefcase barricade
You can't taste your coffee when you drink so fast, is that your tenth
Or eleventh cup? Stranger, look at me
I've never said hello and that's killing me
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon.
Before John came into the picture, Lestrade assigned Sally to be Sherlock's assistant when he was helping out the Yard. Sally actually got along well with him for a while, thinking he was kind of an asshole but fascinating as well as useful. He recognized her as in the upper tier of competence for the Yard, though of course that wasn't good enough to avoid lots of belittling comments. Then one time Sherlock got a little too excited about the puzzle aspect of a crime Sally found especially disturbing. Her attempt to call him out on his callousness didn't go well, leading to a massive fight. Their relationship degenerated from there.

Date: 2016-02-01 08:00 am (UTC)Not in a few years, though I have several older cracky contributions. Several years ago I wrote a Sherlock parody set to the tune of The Devil Went Down to Georgia and a Doctor Who fic where the Doctor regenerates to look exactly like Jack Harkness. I also used to make humorous macros back in the pre-tumblr days.
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.
A very incomplete list of tropes I realiably love: sidekick characters turning out to be the real heroes of the story, fairy tale themes, emotional hurt/comfort, Only One Bed, Huddling For Warmth, long-term mutual pining, friends to lovers, characters burdened by their pasts hashing out their issues together, OT3s.

Date: 2016-02-01 08:36 am (UTC)The answer to this varies depending on what one considers being in a fandom. The longest I've been in a fandom in terms of continuously paying attention to the canon, participating in online discussion, and creating/consuming fanworks is certainly Doctor Who. I got passionate about the show when I first saw it in 2005 and joined online fandom in 2007.
But before that, there are other fandoms that I haven't been as continuously or fully involved in, but started earlier and have never really stopped loving:
-The first fic I wrote was for Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2002.
-I first discovered reading fanfic for the X-Files during the late 90s.
-The first time I participated in online discussion of a fandom was for Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar novels back in the mid (?) 90's on AOL.
-The first time I cosplayed was when my mom made me a Star Trek: TNG uniform for Halloween when I was in fourth grade.
-I've loved the Lord of the Rings since my dad read it aloud to me when I was around six.
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
Oh man, this is tough! The first two that spring to mind are the Ninth Doctor and Parker from Leverage. There so much emotional power in Nine's journey from being closed-off and consumed by grief and regret to being full of love and a little closer to at peace. I'm still blown away by the moment in The Doctor Dances when my normally sad and cynical Doctor's face lights up as he shouts "Just this once, everybody lives!" Every bit of that transformative joy felt earned. And then there's Parker, who got five seasons to learn to grow close to other people and become more in touch with her emotions without ever losing her weirdness. She went from a childlike loner to being the leader of a team. I just adore her arc so much.
