Hi there, Dreamwidth! Geez, it's been a while since I've shown my face here or on LJ. Sorry. Tumblr seduced me with its lively stream of pretty posts. The lack of functional commenting means it requires very low brain effort for me, which in the year 2018 is pretty tempting. However, as y'all have probably heard by now, fandom is in a tizzy because tumblr is banning visual adult content. While that's usually not what I'm personally posting, (a) it does directly affect a lot of people in the fannish community, and (b) they will apparently be enforcing this with some deeply incompetent nipple-detecting AI. This may finally be the push I need to stop spending so much of my time on that blue hellsite.
Does that mean I'll be posting here regularly? I'm not sure. Prior to this kerfuffle, I got a beta account over on the new platform of Pillowfort. (I'm tardis_stowaway over there. Please feel free to add me if you're on PF!) Pillowfort is still rough around the edges, but I feel like it combines a lot of the best features of the Tumblr model and DW/LJ models of social networks for fandom. I suspect that's where I'm going to end up focusing most of my time. If Pillowfort can't sustain itself or if that's not where my people go, then maybe I'll end up doing a lot of posting here, or finally get a twitter account or something. In the meantime, I guess I'll try to maintain presence on PF, here on DW, and still Tumblr (where I'm tardis-stowaway because they won't let me have my underscore) for the time being.
Of course this is terrible timing, as not only do I have the usual holiday commitments, but also I'm currently trying to apply for library science grad school programs and really don't need to be spending time trying to keep up with three fannish social sites (plus ye olde book of faces for RL people). So that's an exciting thing that's happening! Or may happen, if I can stop procrastinating so damn much.
Here are some other things about my life (RL and fannish) since I've last been around DW or LJ:
-My main fandom is the MCU.
-I am still doing environmental education as my job, and I volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation nonprofit
-The last place I traveled (aside from visiting my parents in Atlanta) was a vacation in Portland, OR last summer. I had a great time, and I want to live in Powell's Books forever.
-I love love love Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor.

Date: 2018-12-10 12:23 am (UTC)I never got into tumblr - just one of those platforms that wasn't built for the way my head moves - and I'm not familiar with pillowfort. I continue to love Dreamwidth because I'm old-fashioned that way, I guess.
Anyhow - I hope you stick around; it's great to see folks from my old f'list showing up again!
