However, it will turn out that Death wasn't actually kidnapping John at all, just dropping by to inform him that she hasn't touched Sherlock Holmes.

The two of them would have a very pleasant chat and spend most of the night giggling like schoolgirls. By daybreak, Death would convince Elizabeth's spirit to move on to the next realm, which is probably the reason she took the challenge anyway.
