That's a great "my introduction to Doctor Who" story. Yeah, it is pretty scary for kids, though I wouldn't be surprised if they enjoyed being too scared to sleep. I'm glad it pulled you in and stayed on your favorites list.
While the first Doctor Who I ever watched was technically Eight's TV movie back when it aired in 1996, that didn't make me seek out more. My real introduction to Doctor Who was The Unquiet Dead, which I saw when my dad lured me into the video room at Dragon*Con in 2005. It probably says a lot about me that I saw a show featuring Charles Dickens fighting zombies and decided that it was exactly the sort of show I wanted to see.
