My brother, who is not a science fiction fan generally, loved Firefly. I brought my DVD set home at christmas at some point, and he watched the entire thing in a very short amount of time. He even managed to enjoy it despite watching it completely out of order (not even the out of order it was shown on TV in, he just started with a random DVD and continued from there. Apparently it was too hard to look at the numbers on the DVD cases?)
