Personally what I liked about this episode was Spock's "this is illogical, but give me a minute I will make it sound totally logical" speech in protection of Jim, which - let's face it - was basically very lonh and eloquent paraphrase of "he couldn't do it, because he's Jim and he's perfect". Love is blind and illogical, Mr Spock. *ships happily*
EXACTLY! Spock clearly thinks so highly of Kirk that he regarded the accusations against him as impossible, however totally improbably any other explanation might be. He is totally smitten. <3
