I agree with a lot of what you say here, though not all of it; for instance, I don't think that death would have been a better outcome for Donna.
I don't necessarily think that death would have been a better outcome. Certainly I would rather have seen some alternate solution. However, if you accept the Doctor's assertion that mindwipe or death were the only two possibilities, then the Doctor needed to listen to Donna's choice. Either choice would have been sad for me, but I could have accepted either as long as it wasn't forced. He had no right to mess with her most treasured memories without her consent, not even to save her life. But the world would be a very boring place indeed if we all agreed.
Hooray for fixit fic! I have lots of catching up to do, but it's nice to know that the internet can keep me entertained over the many months until we get new shows. I'm thinking of writing a crack fixit where the Doctor and Donna realize that the choice is not mindwipe or death but mindwipe, death, or shag. Probably been done, though.
Hmm. Can't say I'm entirely sad to have Martha not on Torchwood. I do like her, but I feel like her character is now in a place where she works better as a guest star than a regular. Also, I don't want Torchwood to be too full of the Doctor's former companions. I'd like an interesting original character. I do hope Mickey stays!
I agree that there MUST have been interaction between Jack and Rose that we didn't see. I know they had a lot of balls in the air in terms of storyline, but if they had to drop one this wasn't the one I'd have picked. At least there is that time in the TARDIS when we can imagine something else.
