tardis_stowaway: TARDIS under a starry sky and dark tree (all shall love me & despair)

Drip, drip, drip

I just saw the Waters of Mars, somewhat after the rest of the internet. Prior to reading what other people have to written, what I absolutely need to say right now is this:

-Sweet Tinkerbell Jesus, the Doctor needs someone to fucking stop him!

-I was hoping that my prediction of another incredibly depressing chapter in DW/TW canon would be proved wrong. Instead, RTD just keeps finding new and different ways to make me feel like slitting my wrists at the end of watching. (Note to readers: this is an exaggeration. But not by that much.) In addition to just about everybody on the base dying and the Doctor attaining a terrifying level of hubris, Adelle gave some harsh indications about the intervening 50 years.

-Nine would totally blow his top if he found out what Ten just did, and especially how he was justifying it. So would most of the companions, but Nine would have some particularly strong words on the subject. (He got in a fight with Rose about saving someone against the laws of time, for crying out loud.)

-The Doctor sees Ood people!

-Can I regard this as an enchanting story about a girl who befriended a Dalek and went on to be part of the first colonists on Mars, forgetting about the last day or so of that base?

-I suspect that quite a lot of time may have passed for the Doctor since JE. It's been WAY too long since he had someone with him for long enough to see beyond the flashy rescues and dimensionally transcendent ship and remind him that Time Lord or not he still puts his pants on one leg at a time.

Ten's justification of his actions with all the "Time Lord victorious" and winning the Time War rhetoric goes completely opposite Nine's attitude, and it's NOT a good or healthy change. A lack of hugs and kisses might have played a roll in letting Ten sink as far as he has (but it's not a complete explanation), and perhaps there is a place for them later in the journey of pulling him back. However, right now what he needs is a Tyler or Noble slap, Nine's withering Disapproving Glare of Doom, or some other very firm method to take him down several notches.

I've been wondering about Ten's inflated fear of death too. He seems to alternately seek death out and run away top speed. I think fear that he won't regenerate is distinctly possible. The prophecy is "your song is ending," where regeneration seems to me more of a song changing key.
