I picked Other because after I watched him on the Confidential and in a few clips on You Tube I could see what the Moff meant-he is a bit Doctorish. He looks like there is a lot going on behind his eyes as he speaks. I liked what he said about pacing around, not sleeping, just thinking about it after he found out he had the part. Also, RTD seems very pleased with the choice too, which to me seems like a good sign.
In my heart, I just wanted DT to change his mind, but I knew that wouldn't happen. My second choice was Chiwetel Ejiofor, however, I also knew it was wildly unlikely he would be interested in being tied down to one show like that. I like Paterson Joseph, but I really did not want him to be the Doctor because I could not get past his previous appearance in Season One: why would the Doctor regenerate to look like a character that nearly got Rose killed? Martha looking like her cousin, okay; the Doctor turning into Paterson Joseph, not so much.
This is a lot more comment than I (or probably you) had in mind. Sorry about that! But I also want to add that although I am not always crazy about his choices, I do think the Moff loves DW and that he has made what he thinks is the best choice.
You just gave an in-depth serious comment to my very silly poll! :) Yes, I liked what Matt Smith says in the interview, and I have hope that he'll do a good job even if he's not singing.
Have you seen the miniseries of Neverwhere? Paterson Joseph's Marquis de Carabas is impressive and Doctor-like. The look-alike thing would be odd, but I think in this case they would just not mention it. We can suspend a little disbelief...but that's moot now. Chiwetel Ejiofor would also have been a magnificent Doctor!
We should send in this suggestion! It would be the best show EVER. Maybe all the Doctor needs to strengthen his grip on sanity is to stop repressing his urges to break into song and wear skirts.
