icon meme

I am off of work for the whole week of Thanksgiving.  The break makes me outlandishly happy.  The kids were fun this week, but I'm ready for some time off and a trip to see my family.  I've been more tired than I ought to be.  Also in RL lately, raccoons raided the not-quite-closed dumpster at work and made a royal mess.

Here's a meme I ganked from [livejournal.com profile] isiscaughey , though it's been around my flist in several places.

-Reply to this post and I will pick six of your icons.
-Make a post (including this info) and talk about the icons I chose.
-Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
-This will create a never ending cycle of icon glee.

These were what [livejournal.com profile] isiscaughey  picked for me:

I'm an ardent environmentalist, and I adored the Captain Planet cartoon when I was a child. This icon makes me laugh from the juxtaposition of a very positive  and earnest ("the power is YOURS!") childhood hero with the violence and vitriol.  I use this for environmentalist issues, particularly rants, or sometimes when I just need an angry icon.  After grabbing the icon, I found out that the slogan apparently comes from a short, silly video about Ted Turner making himself into Captain Planet

This scene in The Shakespeare Code is one of my favorite moments in all of Doctor Who.  The first time I saw it, I literally could not stop laughing.  Finding an icon of it totally made my day.  I took a lot of English classes in college, including one on Shakespeare, so this certainly hits home.  I use this icon in relation to slash, flirting, Shakespeare, glee, academia, and more.  I still long to find decent Shakespeare/Captain Jack fic.  You know it would be fabulous!

This is my main Ten/Rose icon.  I really like the sense of motion from Rose's pose and the swoopy lines.  Even though they appear to be mid-action, they have absolutely no personal space with each other.

This icon is made of truth and awesomeness.  The Doctor is obviously attracted to Rose in the show, but he shows it in odd ways.  :)  He might be the Oncoming Storm, but he's also a dork in love.  I like the inclusion of both Nine and Ten.  I use this for the silly side of shippiness, like some occasions on
[livejournal.com profile] ihasatardis , crack or fluffy fic, or times when it is ridiculously obvious how very in love the Doctor and Rose are.

I am rather obsessed with Bad Wolf.  When I was preparing to post "Path of Needles," a very Bad Wolfy fanfic fairytale, I accumulated three different Bad Wolf icons to use with the story.  I tend to use this one for the more ominous side of Bad Wolf because of the flame-like streaks, the darkness, and Rose's vampy makeup.  The Bad Wolf can save lives, but never forget that it's dangerous.  While she was the Bad Wolf, Rose committed genocide against the Daleks.  The vortex power nearly killed her.  The Bad Wolf is awesome not in the slang way I usually use the word but in the sense of inspiring awe.  I now use this chiefly when commenting on other fic with a Bad Wolf element.

How happy did the presidential election results make me?  CAPSLOCK SHOUTY EVEN AFTER A FEW WEEKS HAPPY!!!  I also like to joke (well, mostly joke) that Obama is a Time Lord.  Think about it:  he has Nine's ears and Saxon's charisma.  This icon combines my politics with my favorite show via some clever use of photoshop. Yay for psychic paper!  The Doctor, a big fan of hope and change, would definitely support Obama.  Unless, of course, it turns out that Obama is secretly the Master, controlling us via our mobile phones and planning to enslave the Earth.

Hehe- yes- when I saw the Shakespeare Code, I definitely gave more than a passing thought to a few of my Shakespeare professors.

I could definitely see Obama as a made of awesome Time Lord rebel type.

And I wish to continue in the icon squee cycle of joy :)

1. Spike and Buffy, by [livejournal.com profile] awmp. I love both of them, and they are ridiculously pretty. This is from the S4 episode "Something Blue", in which Buffy & Spike are under a spell that makes them think they want to get married, courtesy of Willow. Hysterical. I love the expression on their faces.
2. Chris Eccleston's character Claude from Heroes, by [livejournal.com profile] dizzycolors. Claude is often rather cranky; this seemed appropriate to use as my angry icon.
3. Ianto considers an orgy, by [livejournal.com profile] miss_jaffacake. It's Torchwood- orgies happen. I was amused. And I enjoy thinking about who might be involved in said orgy.
4. Eight and Rose, by me. I love Eight & Rose together- they are my second favorite ship, after Nine/Rose. I love both gleeful pre-war Eight with playful Rose, and angsty soldier Eight, especially with an older Rose. Alt! and A/U! Eight/Rose makes my day.
5. Nine & Rose's hands. I love all the Nine/Rose handporn. The intimate way their hands curl together while barely touching- so hot, and so very them.
6. Kirk & Spock all bondagey, by [livejournal.com profile] lemonrocket. Kirk & Spock was my introduction to slash when I was a teenager, and I'm still fond of the ship. This is from one of the more ridiculous ST eps out there (the Nazi one), and I was very amused by the composition of the icon.
